Non-Resident Students

As per the Education Act (section 4), the residency of a student is based on the residency of the student's parents/guardians and is determined using two factors:

  • Physical residence
4(1) A student is a resident student of the board of the school division in which the student’s parent resides.
  • Faith
4(4) Where a separate school district is established, an individual residing within the boundaries of the separate school district who is of the same faith as those who established that district, whether Protestant or Roman Catholic,
        (a) is a resident of the separate school district, and
        (b) is not a resident of the public school district.

Current Non-resident Students

Current non-resident students who will be returning to EIPS next year will go through the returning student registration process along with all other returning students. Returning student registration for the 2025-26 school year must be completed Feb. 10-24, 2025.

New Non-resident Students

Register for 2024-25
New non-resident families should contact the requested school to inquire about available space before applying. Schools with closed boundaries will not accept new registrations from non-resident students. If space is available at the requested school for the requested school year, follow the applicable timelines and process below.

As per EIPS Administrative Procedure 305: School Attendance Areas and Requests to Attend Non-Designated Schools, new non-resident student registrations are considered after the returning student registration process is complete.

Registration 2025-26
Registration requests from non-resident families for the 2025-26 school year will be considered starting on March 6, 2025. Families are encouraged to contact the requested school to inquire about available space before registering. Schools with closed boundaries will not accept new registrations from non-resident students.

After speaking to your requested school, if space is available, complete the New Student Registration form.
