SMS Notifications
EIPS uses SMS text messaging as one way for the Division and individual schools to provide important updates to families. Parents and guardians have the option to subscribe to SMS messages as another way to receive updates and information.
Parents and guardians can subscribe to receive these SMS messages only to the mobile numbers associated with their PowerSchool account information. When new students register in EIPS and contact information syncs within Division systems, parent and guardian contacts will receive an invitation text message. Simply follow the prompts to subscribe to receive future SMS messages, if you haven’t already. If you don’t want to receive updates by text, simply disregard the message.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I opt OUT after the fact?
Reply to any of the text messages received from SchoolMessenger with the word "Stop" to unsubscribe from receiving SMS.
How do I opt IN after the fact?
At any point in time, text the letter "Y" or the word "Yes" to 978338.
Why didn't I receive a text messaging asking me to opt-in when I registered my child?
If you already received the opt-in message when EIPS Student Transportation started using the SMS feature in September 2023 or for an older child registered with EIPS prior to January 2025—regardless of whether you did opt-in at that time or not—you will not receive the opt-in message again. Simply text the letter "Y" to 978338 to opt-in at any time.
For new EIPS families, the opt-in message will come out in early August each year, prior to the start of the school year—not when you initially submit the new student registration form. Watch for your opt-in message over the summer.
Additionally, only the mobile numbers on file in PowerSchool are able to subscribe to receive text messages through SchoolMessenger. If you need to update your contact information in PowerSchool, you can do so through the annual Correction and Verification Form each fall, or at any time during the year through the Student Information Update Form. Both are accessible, at the applicable times, through the left-hand menu in your PowerSchool Parent Portal.
I'm not sure if I'm opted in. How do I check?
Log in to your SchoolMessenger account to check and update your subscription preferences as needed.
Can I subscribe to receive text messages from just the school or Student Transportation rather than both?
No. The SMS opt-in functionality is for SchoolMessenger texts as a whole, not individual sites. A mobile number can either be opted in or out. If opted in, the mobile number will receive all SMS messages sent to them through SchoolMessenger, regardless of the sender.
Can I reply to the school through text?
No, the SMS feature is currently only one-way communication from the Division and schools out to families. If you need to provide information or an answer back to the school, please reply to the email you receive, call the school or submit the information through a form link you're provided with in the email to text message you receive.
How do I manage my SchoolMessenger subscription preferences in general?
Parents and guardians can manage which messages types they want to receive and through which communication channels. You can manage your preferences online through your SchoolMessenger account, or through the SchoolMessenger app, available through the App Store or Google Play.
Refer to the SchoolMessenger Parent Account Guide for more information and detailed instructions.
