The Blanket Exercise

All Elk Island Public Schools staff have had the opportunity to experience a Kairos-inspired Blanket Exercise.

What is the Blanket Exercise?
A Blanket Exercise is a teaching tool to share the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Blanket Exercises for Students

To help answer The Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, many students in EIPS are being given an opportunity to explore Canada’s history from an Indigenous perspective through experiential Blanket Exercises.

This exercise uses blankets to represent the landmass of Canada.Through active participation, students will broaden their understanding of the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.
