Measles in Alberta
Measles cases are increasing globally, with numerous countries and travel destinations reporting outbreaks, including the United States, Europe and Canada. So far in 2025, Canada has seen a significant increase in measles cases and a number of jurisdictions have reported measles outbreaks. Cases of measles have been reported in New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Manitoba and Alberta. Up-to-date information is available on the Alberta Health Services (AHS) website, and AHS has also prepared a list of frequently asked questions regarding measles.
To date, there are no confirmed cases of measles in any EIPS schools. As a school division, we continue to work very closely with AHS to monitor for measles in school communities, and we take our direction from AHS on any steps we are required to take.
Albertans are encouraged to ensure immunizations are up to date. EIPS encourages families and staff members to review their immunization records if they are not sure about their immunization status. For information on how to submit an immunization records request in Alberta, visit the MyHealth.Alberta website.
