Thank you to all the families who took part in Elk Island Public Schools’ (EIPS) Attendance Area Cleanup public engagement sessions. As you know, the Division is exploring a possible change to the junior high attendance boundaries in Sherwood Park. Specifically, it’s considering moving the feeder school for students living within Lakeland Village, Summerwood and Summerwood North to Clover Bar Junior High for grades 7 to 9. Currently, students are designated to Sherwood Heights Junior High.

In total, two public engagement meetings were held—on June 20 and October 3. The meetings were in-person, drop-in sessions. Attendees discussed the possible boundary change, asked questions and provided feedback. An online survey was also conducted, and a feedback form circulated to collect additional input. All four efforts were facilitated by Western Management Consultants (WMC), the contracted public consultation firm. WMC then analyzed all the data and compiled two What We Heard Reports. EIPS also created a Frequently Asked Questions resource.

Frequently Asked Questions: Junior High Attendance Area

On November 17, at the public Board meeting, the Division will present the documents to trustees for review. However, no recommendation or decision will be made about the junior high attendance area at the meeting. More time is needed before making a decision, as public consultations are still ongoing for various Division programs.

As such, for the upcoming 2023-24 school year, the junior high attendance area for students living within Lakeland Village, Summerwood and Summerwood North will remain unchanged. Any decision made will take effect in 2024-25, at the earliest. Please know, EIPS remains committed to ensuring the final Attendance Area Cleanup recommendation respects the feedback collected during the recent public consultations.

Again, thank you for your participation. EIPS will continue to keep the school community informed about the process as information becomes available. For more information, or to subscribe for updates, visit eips.ca.
