Sara Tinney, Substitute Teacher at EIPS
Sherwood Park, AB. — From March 10-14, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is celebrating Substitute Appreciation Week, an opportunity to recognize substitutes and their vital role throughout the Division. Every day, substitutes step up to the plate in classrooms and school offices to support student learning and keep schools running smoothly.
Substitute teacher Sara Tinney has been in education since 2017. She joined EIPS in 2021. Tinney works most frequently in high schools but has also supported elementaries and junior highs. “I believe substitute teachers are a vital part of the education system. Since we cover a variety of classes in many different schools, we need to be flexible and adapt quickly to the varying classroom dynamics.”
Substitute teachers and non-teaching substitutes are essential for public education. Whether a starting point for their career, a job after retirement or a fit for their lifestyle, substitutes span a wide range of individuals who contribute to the success of schools across the Division.
Tinney finds joy in her work. “I love teaching! Supporting students as they learn and grow as individuals is always interesting and being a part of their triumphs is rewarding.”
Tinney is one of many substitute teachers and non-teaching substitutes who work within EIPS, from elementary to senior high—in general education, specialized programming and school support. Without their assistance and dedication, EIPS schools would run much less smoothly.
Thank you to all the substitutes throughout EIPS for everything you do!
