Sherwood Park, AB. — Students and their family members from around the region are invited to attend the Mundare and Vegreville Indigenous Family and Community Evening on November 20. The in-person event is free, and all are welcome to attend.

The Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education team have organized an evening of learning and connection. Enjoy soup and bannock from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by art with Métis Knowledge Keeper Connie Kulhavy and Giant Floor Map teachings from the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada.

“Education is the key to reconciliation, understanding and respect,” says Danielle Booker, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education Consultant at EIPS.  “By learning about each other’s histories, cultures and traditions—like the stories told by the Land—we begin to build stronger, more connected communities. The Giant Floor Map helps us understand not only where we are today, but the historical relationships Indigenous Peoples have had with the land for thousands of years.”
