Students enrolled in Christian programs at EIPS weave a religious perspective throughout their academic journey.

Sherwood Park, AB. — Students from kindergarten to Grade 12 have the option to grow in their faith as they journey into one of several Christian programs at Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS). “I love the Logos program because it helps me learn about God’s creation and His perfect love for us,” says Maisie Kryzanowski, a Grade 6 student at Brentwood Elementary. “We learn about Jesus’ sacrifice and the miracles he’s done. The Logos program has given me friends and teachers that support me in my growth in Christ.”

Students enrolled in Logos Christian and Alternative Christian programs within EIPS receive religious Christian, Bible-based courses, instruction, exercises and instructional materials aligned with the standard Alberta curriculum.

“I love the Alternative Christian program because I get all the benefits of a public education while also getting to learn more about God and deepening my relationship with Him,” says Kinley Johnson, a Grade 9 student at Strathcona Christian Academy Secondary. “In my Leadership class, we have the opportunity to spend time with local senior citizens in our community. It’s been so special to be able to learn first-hand the importance of caring for others, showing compassion and what it truly means to be a disciple of Jesus.”

The Division’s Christian programs weave a religious perspective into every class. “Through a biblical lens, students are encouraged to wonder about and explore the beauty of God’s creation, fostering a sense of awe and curiosity about the world around them,” says Tim Saxton, a teacher at Fort Saskatchewan Christian. “This approach not only enriches their learning but also connects their academic pursuits to a deeper spiritual understanding.”

Students can currently enter the Logos Christian program in kindergarten to Grade 6 at Brentwood Elementary in Sherwood Park. The program continues at Sherwood Heights Junior High from grades 7-9.

In Sherwood Park, Alternative Christian programming is available at Strathcona Christian Academy Elementary from kindergarten to Grade 6 and Strathcona Christian Academy Secondary from grades 7-12. Fort Saskatchewan Christian offers an Alternative Christian program from kindergarten to Grade 9.

“Christian programming also reinforces shared family values, supporting parents and guardians in raising children who uphold compassion, kindness and integrity,” says Saxton. “It fosters intergenerational teaching, as students learn from both their peers and the wisdom of older generations, strengthening their connection to the broader Christian community.”
