Sherwood Park, AB. — Grade 9 F.R. Haythorne Junior High students enrolled in French as a Second Language (FSL) and Enterprise and Innovation are teaming up to host the school’s annual Holiday Market on Tuesday, December 3.

The partnership gives the FSL students a chance to raise money through the sale of baked goods and a silent auction, with proceeds going toward a class field trip to Quebec in May 2025. For their part, the Enterprise and Innovation students will be showcasing their own businesses and hosting a section of the market where visitors can purchase products and learn more about the students’ ventures.

“It was amazing to watch both groups of students come together to collaborate on this event,” says Crystal Getschel, a French language teacher at F.R. Haythorne. “It’s been a joy to see the level of commitment and the amount of hard work that has gone into organizing the holiday market, and the students’ excitement about sharing their ideas and products with teachers, staff, classmates and members of the public.”

Attendees will enjoy perusing an impressive variety of baked items to choose from in preparation for holiday celebrations, available as single servings or larger packages from FSL students. And the Enterprise and Innovation section of the market will include mini-bakeries, gourmet hot chocolate, printed t-shirts, used books and other great businesses. Community members are invited to attend and pick up some great offerings for enjoying themselves or giving as gifts.
