With the school year coming to an end, we wanted to update you on where Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is with developing an implementation plan for students impacted by the decision to relocate the senior high French Immersion program to balance senior high enrolment in Sherwood Park. As you’ll recall, earlier this year and after extensive review, the EIPS Board of Trustees made the decision to:
- relocate the senior high French Immersion program to Salisbury Composite High; and
- balance senior high enrolment by redesignating Lakeland Ridge senior high students to Bev Facey Community High.
Both are effective when the new Sherwood Park replacement school opens, expected in the 2026-27 school year.
To ensure a smooth transition for students, staff and families, EIPS plans to consult with all impacted stakeholders to develop an effective implementation plan—starting in fall 2024. Consultations will include working-group meetings; staff discussions; an online survey with students, staff and school families; and a public engagement session to fine-tune and perfect a draft version of the implementation plan—with a finalized plan expected in spring 2025.
