Sherwood Park, AB. — A new partnership between Sherwood Park-based International Academy of Esthetics (IAE) and Salisbury Composite High is helping cosmetology students further enhance their education before graduation.

Through the agreement, IAE will provide job shadowing and facility tours for Salisbury Composite High students, as well as in-class presentations to students on new and upcoming techniques. As well, the Academy will provide the high school’s teachers with professional development opportunities, so Salisbury’s cosmetology program can continue to offer the most current and up-to-date education possible—and give their students the edge when they begin their career in the field. And to top it all off, IAE will offer a yearly $1,000 scholarship to pursue professional accreditation through their school.

“I’m really excited for the chance to get a head start on my post-secondary education while I’m still in high school,” says Kaden Moore, a Grade 12 cosmetology student from Salisbury Composite High. “Learning about and practicing leading-edge procedures will give me a really sought-after skill set when I’m ready to begin my career.”

Salisbury Composite High’s cosmetology teacher, Zena Duguid, says that’s the goal of the partnership. “The personal service sector is incredibly competitive, and for those who already have their eye on a rewarding career in esthetics, partnerships like this give them an invaluable advantage,” she says. “We want students to see what opportunities are out there and learn from those who are already active in the industry.”

For the International Academy of Esthetics, providing local students with a chance to learn more about current industry practice is an investment in the success of their organization. “At IAE, our mission is to uphold the standards of the Esthetic Industry both locally and internationally. As an iTEC certified college, we are delighted to share our experience with the next generation of Estheticians and Beauty Specialists,” says Cynthia Bernier, Director, International Academy of Esthetics. “We’re excited to partner with Salisbury Composite High and very much look forward to a long future together.”
